The Gospel

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel; for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes….” (Romans 1:16)

Millions of people go through a very similar routine. They wake up on Sunday, get dressed, drive to church, walk in the doors, sit in a pew for an hour, stand up and leave, and drive home in time for lunch.

But has it changed them? Are the still the same person they were just a few hours before? Has it made any noticeable difference in their lives at all? Sadly, in most cases, the answer would be no. Why is that?

For most people, going to church is about religion. It’s about fulfilling an obligation. People do it because they would feel guilty if they didn’t. And a lot of them have learned this from none other than the church. Many churches today have become obsessed with religion.

So how is Eternity different?

First, because we believe in the Gospel, we don’t believe that religion changes anything. The Gospel changes people. You may ask “What is the Gospel?” Very simply, the Gospel is Jesus. Granted, there is so much more that can and should be said about what the Gospel is, but at the very core, Jesus is the Gospel both in His death and in His life. So we’re not asking you to join a religion. We’re pleading with you to follow a man. A man who was God. A man named Jesus.

And that brings us back to our first point. Religion doesn’t change people. Jesus does.

Religion Says

Jesus Says

Follow these rules and God may be happy with you

Follow Me and God will eternally be happy with you because He is eternally happy with Me

Try harder

Rest in Me

You’ll never get there

You already are here

To do it yourself

I have done it for you

Focus on yourself

Focus on others

Do it because you are supposed to

Do it because you want to

You’ve messed up - it’s too late

You’re forgiven

Trust in yourself

Trust in Me

And there in lies the difference between religion and the Gospel. One brings oppression and obligation, the other brings transformation and liberty.

Second, because the Gospel is our focus, how many times you go to church is not our goal. The goal of the Gospel is transformation. Are you becoming more like Jesus? Going to church, reading your Bible, and praying in the morning are not the end goal of following Jesus. You can do all those things and still not be changed. Are they important? Yes. But only as they help you become more like Jesus.

Third, because the Gospel is the beginning and the end of the Christian life, we believe that it is the main and only thing we should focus on. Too many churches today have become known for their political views, their moral causes, or their narrow beliefs about what Christianity should be. We are focused on one person: Jesus

We are passionate about people finding and following Jesus.
