There is something amazing that happens when you become a Christian. You literally are born again. It’s not that you go back to the delivery room and reappear out of your mother’s womb. That would be weird. Rather, this birth is a spiritual birth. A new spirit and a new heart are created in you. Here’s how God describes it in a book out of the Old Testament written by a prophet named Ezekiel:
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from fall your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
Jesus is now your treasure and God has now placed within you His Holy Spirit and has now given you a desire to please Him. As a spiritual newborn, just as it is with a baby, it is critical that you receive the proper nourishment, care, protection, love, guidance, and direction. With so many dangers and destructive teachings easily available, it is vital that you digest the proper teaching of God’s word. Failure to do so can stunt or seriously harm your development as a Christian.
